Andrew King Cowper

I am a new member and have just found a reference to my cousin, Andrew King Cowper from 2003 on this Forum.

I note that people wanted more info on him, as do I, so would be pleased to make contact. I have the family info as I am a genealogist but know little about aviation!

I take it you have seen this article in Cross and Cockade?

Yes but I could only get the 1st page and there is clearly more? Any idea how I get the rest or, more importantly for my family history, photos and more details of his achievements.

I have seen reference to the "PRO" - can someone explain what that is?

thanks

PRO = Public Records Office, now known as the National Archive, at Kew, just outside London.

G'day David,

I assume you have ordered his file from the National Archives http://www.naa.gov.au/. There is also a file at the AWM, I call them the Bean files as Charles Bean corresponded with the men or their relatives when he was writing the official histories.

I have some material on him as I have gathered tid-bits on all of the Aussies that served with the RNAS, RFC & RAF with the aim to write a trilogy of books, PM me if you would like to know what little I have on him.

Regards,

Andrew

What you find on-line in Cross & Cockade is just a "taster" to show what is in the journal - the intention being to show people what they will get if they subscribe to the the journal.

If you contact the membership secretary at:

membership.secretary@crossandcockade.com

I am sure he will sort you out with a copy of the relevant journal and put you in touch with Michael Partridge, the author of the piece on Cowper.

Stories about Cowper always catch my eye, as my name is Andrew King. Has anybody turned up any photos of his aircraft? I've always thought I'd like to build a replica SE-5a in his markings. Have to get my Nieuport 28 done first, but maybe then....
