Vikinn, are you quoting the Julian or the Gregorian calendar? That is, are the losses reported by the Russians or by the Germans? The follow up question is, if the Julian how many days to add (subtract) to get it into the Gregorian (I can't remember, I'm old). R.

Hi Vikinn

I think a few of these losses has been discussed earlier here on the Forum, but that was several Years ago...

However, to start with the loss 10 Oct 14 from FFA 31. The crew were Lt Hans Gandert esc. and Lt Friedrich Wilhelm von Hesler esc.
I have that they were brought down at Grojec (S Warschau) by Russian AA.
Gandert who later become an "Ace" escaped after three days. Also von Hesler (a Saxon escaped the same month)

Hi again Vikinn

I think that the a/c from FFA 35 brought down by Russian AA on 3 Oct 14, had the crew Lt Karl Lau (P) woPOW (died later on) and Lt dR Curt Cleinow (O) POW.

However Cleinow, was soon able to escape, no dates known by me...

Despite that the German loss is recorded in one source as 2 Nov 14, that is probably a delay due Red Cross confirmation or similar...

German LOsses

gentlemen, thanks to you i have been able to more positively confirm some Russian claims and German losses. do you know the location of the German loss of FFA.35 on 03.10.1914???

10.10.1914 FFA.31 should be Oblt. Hans Eberhardt Gandert.
31.08.1916 FFA.4b should be Unt. Heinrich Busse.

to Rick, we are all getting older. the Russian Julian calendar was 13 days behind the Western Gregorian calendar.

thank you Gunnar and Vikinn. all best, august

Ain't that the truth. Hey, at least I remembered it was a constant fudge factor! R.

Hi Vikinn

Does the Russian daily HQ report make any note if the German a/c which was shot down on 7 Sep 14 fell within Russian lines or not..?

A possible candidate for this loss is Oblt Paul Reinhold (O) who was reported l-WIA on this day (eventually 6 Sep 14). But I dont have the nearer circumstances...

Reinhold did later become commander of FAA 253 but does anyone knew the unit for him in Sep 1914...?
