Georges Boillot

On a homepage for German car fans I read the Grand Prix of France winner (Peugot 1912+13) Georges Boillot died in an aircraft on the Western front in 1916.

Is more known about this man and his military career?

To answer your question, look at what I found on Wikipedia:

With the outbreak of World War I, Georges Boillot joined the new French Air Force. He lost his life on April 21, 1916 when his plane was shot down in a dogfight over Verdun-sur-Meuse. In his honor, several places in France named a street for him and there is a George Boillot School in Montlhéry in the Essonne département near Paris.

Hope this can help!!!

Hello,

I can not find him in the French list on 21 april 1916...

... but I found the following information: "His brother André Boillot was also a race driver and at war's end, won the 1919 Targa Florio. Georges Boillot's son, Jean Boillot, became the director-general of Peugeot Talbot cars and in 1981 was responsible for involving Peugeot into rally racing."

Georges Boillot

Hi!

Boillot got killed on 20th May 1916 delivering a dogfight with 5 Fokkers into the early morning. He killed one pilot and got himself killed into the same fight.

He was buried at Vadelaincourt.

He was pre-WWI a sportsman.
cyclist, than car-mechanic, cardriver and his first victory was so to see when he won the Grand-Prix from the Club d'Automobile de France at Dieppe 1912.

He joint the Army when WWI broke out as cardriver and was by several occasions the cardriver for General Joffre.

Than he joined the aviation to become pilot.

He was awarded with the Croix de Guerre and on 15th May 1916 granted with the Légion d'Honneur.

On his funeral ceremonial Cpt. Féquant was present.

During the ceremonial flowers were dropped by his comrades Navarre and Nungesser.

The same day Navarre got his 11th victory at Chattancourt and Nungesser got his 5th victory over the bois des Forges.

But's all I have!

VBR

Hello!

"the french air service chronology" and "morts pour la France" database agree on the 19th may 1916 as date of death.
Strangely, in FASWC, Boillot is listed as N65 commanding officer but in the SHAA book the CO is capitaine Féquant.
In FASWC, 10th page of illustrations, there is a picture of Boillot with Navarre standing in front of Boillot' Nieuport 16.

In his memoire des hommes file he is said to be born the 3rd august 84
at the time of his death he was temporary sous lieutenant and so could not have been in command of a squadron (but for a short period of time the N65 was under cpt Fequant
