German Naval Aircraft Losses Ostsee

Hello Vikinn, i believe the Friedrich Karl carried only one seaplane. am still uncertain about the fate of the pilot and observer. the other losses you mention must have been KIC and not KIA. cheers, august

Hi Vikinn

The German Marine Air Force lost at least one a/c in the Ostsee during 1914...

I havent read through the KTB of SFS Putzig yet, but their first commander Oblt zS Hans Andler (P) with an unknown (for me) observer were captured in Sep 1914.....
Strangely Andler and x was evidently picked up by an British U-boat.....

August is correct that the crew von Herff and Voss were KIC, but I am unsure if the were sea-flyers belonging to SFS Holtenau or they belonged to the landflyers stationed at Kiel (just nearby)...

Hello August and Gunnar,

Thank you for your help.

I have an information that in article Peter Grosz in magazine
"Over The Front" vol.14 nos.1 of 1999 the losses on SMS Friedrich Karl 17.11.14 are called
Albatros # D24 , Albatros WDD # 52 ,Albatros WDD # 55 , Rumpler 4B12 # 51

In Russian source there is an information about the plate lifted with a of parts of a airplane in region loss SMS Friedrich Karl.

“ ALBATROS-WERKE G.m.b.H. BERLIN-JOHANNISTHAL Type WDD № 1718/2 “

Probably it is factory number of a lost airplane.

Cheers vikinn

Ostsee Losses

Hello Gunnar and Vikinn, i have no record of the loss of Oblt.z.S. Hans Andler (CO SFS Putzig) and unknown observer during September 1914. it is highly doubtful that they were picked up by a British submarine as they did not enter the Baltic Sea until mid-October 1914. can you confirm date and cause of his "capture"??? cheers, august

Hi August

As mentioned in my earlier post, I still havent read the KTB of SFS Putzig or other material regarding this unit...

Perhaps someone else have read throug the following files in the archive in Freiburg:
RM 112/145, 112/147-149 and possible RM 112/151...???

I bet the answer could be found in the files mentioned above...
