The French publication "L'Aéronautique pendant la Guerre Mondiale" has a pretty good write up on him oage 15 a photo and page 16 a short biography.

From "l'Encylopédie Illustrée de l'Aviation" No 171 has a little better biographical material.

If you can't locate these pubications let me know and I will mail you copies of the bios.

Hi,

Colonel (later General) Duval was the commander of the first division aérienne of the french army.

He was the first in France to have the idea to use the aviation "en masse", to use a mass of planes in a particular point of the front in order to gain air superiority, eliminate all enemy fighters, and use the bombers to bomb enemy troops.

The division aérienne was used with success to block the last german offensives of 1918.

Several french escadrilles were attached to the division aérienne : Bréguet 14 bombers, with Caudron R 11 escort planes, and SPAD XIII fighters.

As I remember, Duval died during WW2, forgotten by all. His ideas were not remembered during the 1940 campaing...
