Lieut: H J Burden

My family has in its possession a dog tag for the above person.

I am interested to find out whether the tag belonged to the H J Burden who was the WW1 flying ace.

The inscription on the tag reads:
Lieut: H J Burden
P.
Machine Gun Coy:
11th Can: Inf: Bde:

We are also interested in finding out how it came to be in our possession (possible WW1 links to Gt.Uncle)

Does anyone have any further info. which could help me?

It would mean getting up into the loft to look at my old records on Burden to be 100 per cent sure, but I'm pretty sure this tag is of Henry John Burden, the Canadian who served in 56 Sqdn.

Alex,

Thanks for the reply, we were wondering whether H J Burden had any living relatives whom may be interested in having the tag returned to their family, hence our enquiry.

We are also intriuged as to how Sarah's grandmother came to be in possession of the tag, possible connections may have been a visit to London (Clerkenwell) or via her brother Charles Noble who was in the ASC-MT at Ypres.

We'll probably never know now.

Here's a starting point: his enlistment papers, which show he was from Toronto. Burden Burden.

There is also an archive collection Archive

Arthur Bishop, whose father was married to Burden's sister, might have more family information.

Smile Arthur Bishop

Do you know how I can get in touch with Arthur Bishop? I would like the dog tag to go to someone in the Burden family.
