R.I.P., Rittmeister;he fought bravely and fairly for his country and secured himself an important place in history with honor and dignity, even considering the horror of war itself.
Cheers, Manfred

Just FWIW, 82 years before MvR's demise, another event occurred that (near as I can tell) usually passes unnoticed.
On April 21, 1836 a Texian "army" of no more than 900 (including the rear guard) beat the bejabbers out of 1,500 mexican troops, killing at least 600 versus 9 Texian KIAs. The independence of the Texas Republic was thus assured.
Now 170 years after the battle, the losers are occupying the lost territory!

Highest aces of WWI, sure.

Very agreed, and I was always very astonished of such high scores. The targets in WW2 vere much faster to aim and the enclosed cockpit gave lesser vision freedom.
Of course i join you to celebrate MvR as the highest WW1 ace!
Honza.

I would also like to add my salute to that of the rest. The more I study Von Richthofen the more I feel like I knew him myself. I think that evan though the aces of WWII had higher scores then the aces of WWI, they can't really match the Red Baron. Fighter tactics changed alot, and I doubt that If you could bring back the highest german ace of WWII, to WWI he could make equel with Le diable Rouge. Thats My opinion.

R.I.P. Manfred von Richthofen
Many surpassed his numbers but none have yet come close to his legend. He remains the Ace of Aces in humanity's collective memory.
