Manfred von Richthofen 88 years ago...
Once again, we remember just 88 years ago the Highest ace of all time came to his death.
In remembrance I toast to the man that has driven my aviation passion.
I hope I can finish all 80 silver goblets…
Lloyd

Whether people want to admit it or not, The “Red Baron” has become an international folk hero! I wonder what manner of man he would have been if he had survived the war?

LedZepplane:
I'm kind of glad he didn't. Then his achievements wouldn’t be overburdened with the dark cloud that burned in Gorrings heart. I look at this as the end of chivalry. I believe that Udet longed for it too towards the end but didn't find it.
Prost...

A firm salute to Manfred von Richthofen as we remember him today. He was a great leader, an even better friend.

I am sure Erich Hartmann (352), Günther Rall (275), Walter Nowotny (258), Adolph Galland (104) and about 100 others may dispute that coment.
Highest aces of WWI, sure.

Uncle's 23 years of celebration
Greetings, All:
On this day of remembrance, I thought I'd pass on the story of my Uncle. He was an air engineer in the Army Air Force during WWII and a life-long RC builder and flyer and fan of WWI aircraft. Himself a very accomplished pilot, he once built most of a full-scale SE5a just out of love for the aircraft - sold the project. He has an RC airfield named after him in Pekin, ILL: Herman D. Lowery Field.
For the last 22 years, on the 21st of April, he has flown his 1/4 scale RC Red Baron DR-1 in memory of the great ace and plans to do the same today. I'm proud of my uncle and owe to him my love of WWI flying.
God rest the soul of Manfed von Rochthofen.
