Hi Buddecke
I dont knew who the first commander of Kasta 28 was, but Oblt Ulrich Grauert took over the command on 8 Jul 16 and stayed until 28 Dec 16. As he later was a Luftwaffe General it surely exist photos of him...
The 20 Dec 15 reported as formation date is likely a "paper work" date as Kasta 28 apparently began their activities in Mar 1916 when they "moved" to the front within 5 Army (Verdun area).
One of the original pilots was Lt dR Hans-Georg von der Marwitz who later scored 15 victories....he exist on other photos...!
Lt Alfred King (another German Ace) served shortly within the unit in late summer of 1916...
Airfields: I have them at Mouzon on 1 Jun 16. On 5 Sep 16 the whole KG 5 moved to 1 Army (Somme). I then have them at Ronnsoy in Oct 1916 and later in Nov-Dec 1916 at Gouy...
I have some more names if this is the actual unit on the photo...
Gunnar

Hello Regulus,
you think this is Kasta 13......
Do you know, Adolf Genth was in Kasta 28 later, too ? Do you have his unit list ?
The man to the right of him had the arm sign "V" for Kagohl 5 and "28" for Kasta 28. Of course, he was send to Kasta 13 !!???!!!
Thanks
Buddecke

Between December 1915 and March 1916 Kagohl 5 (Kasta 25-30) was "built" in Großenhain/Saxony under command of Hptm. Hohl.

Hi Buddecke,
Sorry, Adolph Genth was never in Kagohl V. He came from the FEA 9 where his aviation carreer began and went to the Halbgeschwader I in October 1916 and by the end of the year he was wit Kagohl III until the end of the war.
Your remark about the photo is very correct indeed, but if you look to the man next to him, he also seems to be from another Kagohl (I ?) So it are probably visitors.
This is indeed Kasta 13, while they were at Sint Denijs Westrem probably photographed in front of the Chateau Grand Noble, where the crew stayed.
Will check later on this week if I can recognise any faces...
Best from Johan

The man standing a bit alone in the middle should be Oblt. Martin Fiebig, the WW II General der Luftwaffe.
I have seen WW II pics of him and the face looks the same, even the way he poses (facial expression) for a photo is the same...

Tobias and Johan, the easiest way to resolve this is to contact Thomas Genth. He has the same photo posted on his web site, and identifies it as KG 3/Ks 13. He may be able to identify all of the men, also. R.
