Location and name of chateau and aerodrome where Richthofen and Flying Circus based

Slightly off last subject...I realize that the Flying Circus was mobile, however, appreciate anyone who might know name and location of the main Chateau and aerodrome in France where the Flying Circus squadron was based...Thanks, dlovingood@attg.net

Mike- See e-mail, but for anyone else interested in Over the Front, the magazine of the League of WW-I Aviation Historians, here is the web site.

http://www.overthefront.com/main/index.html

OTF is a near must for serious students of WW-I aviation history.

You might find this book by Michael O'Connor helpful. It has photos and maps of all the airfields of MvR along with much other detail. Below is a link to the book on Amazon.

In The Footsteps of the Red Baron

I think that the aerodrome to which you refer is the one near Courtrai in Belgium at Marckebeke and the Chateau de Bethune.

Blue skies!

There is a bio of Hawker titled
Hawker, V.C.
by Tyrrel M Hawker (L's brother) which has a good account of this action and much more.

Tyrell Hawker's book is an interesting read, to be sure, but be careful of his account of Lanoe's final battle. Written as fact, in actuality much of it can only be speculation, unless his brother told him directly--and he didn't survive the fight.

J O Andrews. Account of Hawker's last patrol.

Anna Malinovska interviewed J O Andrews in 1979. His reminiscence of Hawker's last flight appears in her recently published book Voices in Flight.
Cheers
