Hello everyone,
I saw this article a little while back and I wasn't impressed. Despite all the references, the article just doesn't have a good credibility or language to it. It's just amazing what one can find on the internet.
One sentence says: "Clearly the dog, a huge ugly Great Dane, was his best friend". That made me pretty upset. How unprofessional does it sound to call a dog "ugly"? Poor Moritz...

From the film footage and photographs I've seen, he was a handsome, well loved dog.
"The most beautiful being in all creation is the genuine Danish hound, my little lap-dog, my Moritz. I bought him in Ostend from a brave Belgian for five marks. His mother was a beautiful animal and one of his fathers also was pure-bred. I am convinced of that. I could select one of the litter and I chose the prettiest." -
Manfred von Richthofen
Sorry if I got a bit defensive. Must be the dog lover in me...
Edit: Ah, I can't help it, here's a real nice, short video that I found of Manfred, Moritz, and some staffel dogs:
