Eddie Rickenbacker filmed interview

Hi,
Does anyone out there know of an interview of Eddie Rickenbacker (done most likely in the late 1950s or early 1960s), where he was filmed beside Cole Palen's Spad XIII? The Spad was painted to look like Eddie's well-known #1.

The interview did not take place at the Aerodrome...The Spad was trailered to the location.

Where was it filmed? Who filmed it and why? Who might have a copy?
Thanks very much,
SL DIII

The only recording I've heard of EVR was on the History Channel's original "Dogfights" segment. It was a short clip and I don't recall the subject.

Photos of the event

Hi Barrett,

Here are a couple of still photos from the interview. You can see the motion picture camera, which is set up, aimed at the cockpit in one of the photos.

It would be neat to find the old footage that was shot that day.

Wow! That is interesting! Have you tried contacting Old Rhinebeck to see if they would know?

That looks very much like the EVR interview from the old 1950's CBS series "Airpower", hosted by Walter Crankcase.

Thanks

Hi Karrart,
Thanks for the tip on "Air Power." I found a video set on ebay called "Air Power" that includes a tape called "Dawn of the Dogfight" so I'm hoping that this is the episode that includes EVR. There is another DVD/Video set of "Air Power" episodes that features 6 hours worth of WWII footage, and I don't believe any of them would include the interview in question, though I could be wrong. Does anyone know for sure?

As I understand it, there were 26 episodes of ""Air Power." The first one aired on November 12, 1956, so this is the right time-frame, and Eddie Rickenbacker is mentioned as a guest.

Balloon Buster...I asked Jim Hare and Bill King who are probably the last two left at Rhinebeck who might have known anything about this, and they didn't. Thanks for the suggestion. I have one other call to make and I'm pretty sure I can get more info that way... I'll share what I learn about it here.

Best regards,
SL DIII

I believe that's the one. Over 20 years ago a local TV station ran the series every morning at 10:00, with lots of commercials! I taped a lot of it, at the 'cheap speed' and today the old tapes are kinda dim.
Another interesting episode is about barnstorming in the 20s and is hosted by Art Carney- good ol' Norton from the Honeymooners.
