The artist who got the serial number wrong was also remiss over the Camel's other markings. Still, Le Boutillier was not the only pilot who couldn't remember his machine's markings in later years!

What hapened to the nose of this plane? Genetic disorder?
It looks to be a member of Lockheed Vega/Sirius/Orion family, a Jack Northrop design, except nose ...

I believe that the airplane in the photo is indeed a modified Lockheed Vega, and I'm pretty sure there's movie footage of it around, if I remember right it shows that plane running into a car...
