Lothar von Richthofen

I am new to these forums; this is my very first post, so forgive if I don't get it right. I have been interested in WWI aviation for years, and I know I saw somewhere in one of my books that Lothar von Richthofen was flying an actress and another person in an airplane when they crashed, and Richthofen was killed. However, I have not been able to find this book, or what is in it, for many years. I thought I would take the chance and ask if anyone could tell me the name of the actress and the other person who crashed with him, and did they die also? Thanks for any help--

4 July - On a flight from Berlin to Hamburg the airplane D 1481 with Lothar piloting had an accident. Just before the airfield the engine stopped. Due to engine failure, the machine climbs no longer over the crowns of tree, separates (stalls) falls. The pilot died - the passengers, among others UFA star Fern Andra, survived.

Fren Andra ... American/German actress.

Born Fern Andrews in Watseka, Illinois on 24 November 1893 (some sources say 1895), died in Aiken, South Carolina on 8 Feb 1974.
She emigrated to Germany and in 1916 had her own glass house (studio) built. Genuine, directed by Robert Wiene. According to film critic Lotte Eisner - 'a pretty woman but a mediocre actress'. She returned to the United States as the Nazis came to power.

...cannot find any other passengers listed from the crash of Lothar von Richthofen's aircraft.

Hope this helps a little.

Lothar and 2 passengers

Fern Andra was accompanied by her manager, Georg Bluen, in the plane flown by Lothar. They were flying to the coast to look at some locations for a movie.

thank you

Thank you all very much for your information. And I am sure all of you have noticed how an ace can survive years of dogfighting and then die in simple accidents after the war--Lothar v. Richthofen, Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer, Gerhard Barkhorn, Heinz Bar-- Yes, I am a firm believer in fate--

Brumowski

Please don't forget Godwin Brumowski, Austria's leading ace with 35 conformed victories. He was killed in a crash on June 3, 1936 at the airport Schiphol, Netherlands.
