Lt. & Capt. Sieveking

On the 30.10.1917 a Lieut. L.G. Sieveking became a POW
when the HP 0/100 he was flying was shot down.
On the 16.05.1918 a Capt.V.E. Sieveking was KIA when a
HP 0/400 he was flying was shot down.
Can anyone tell me if these two airmen were related ?

The Sieveking mss. are the papers of Lancelot de Giberne Sieveking, author and playwright and of his ancestors. Lancelot de Giberne Sieveking and his brother, Valentine Edgar Sieveking both served in World War I and the collections holds family correspondence from this period. Also included are many photographs from the World War I period showing airplanes, North Africa and from Lance's captivity as a German prisoner-of-war.

There is a photograph and some information about Valentine Edgar in my book "A History Of No.6 Squadron RNAS". "VE" served with 4 Wing, then 6, 7 and 14 Squadrons RNAS and finally 214 RAF.

He was actually thrown out of the RNAS due to "showing no ability to learn to fly". Due to family connections he was reinstated.

Eventually ended up with a DSC and bar, and dead of course!
