Can anyone give the names of the five crew members of the British airship C27 shot down in flames on the 11.12.1917.

Flight Lieutenant John Francis Dixon DSC
Flight Lieutenant Herbert Hall
F/20396 AMII John E Collett
J/34195 AMI James Ernest Martin
F/2824 AMI Ernest Rogers Whyte

Whyte was Australian.

G'day Alan,

I have an intrest in the C 27 as one of the Australians in the RNAS I am researching was a crew member on the last mission.

The Crew were;

Flt Lt. John F. Dixon DSC
Flt Lt. Herbert Hall
AM1. James E. Martin
AM1. Ernest Rogers Whyte (The Aussie)
AM2. John Collett

Ernest Rogers Whyte was born in Melbourne Australia on January 31st 1890. He enlisted in the RNAS on December 30th 1914 was posted at Pembroke III until September 1917. He was transferred to Pulham (President) where he was declared dead 12/12/1917. He was mentioned in Dispatches London Gazette 1/5/1918.

The London Gazette entry reads:

The following Officers and Men have been mentioned in Despatches:—

P.O. Mech., 1st Gr., (E) Ernest Rogers Whyte (killed), O.N. F.2824.
