Post Dogfights: Deaths of the Great War

NOTE: This video is graphic, but I think it can offer a better understanding of war. If you're already having second thoughts, turn back. I'm not responsible for any damages done to you.

I created this video a few hours ago in tribute to those who lost their lives in World War 1 fighting in the air. This was mainly because I'd just bought a new book about my relative, Erich Lowenhardt for whom I am named for (although my full name is Erich Kurt "Loewenhardt", not "Lowenhardt"; dad changed it for a more English-ey spelling.). Anyway, the link is as follows:

Talking

Mate,
Interesting, yet a little on the harsh side. Perhaps a warning at the begining to those folks that really do not care to look at corpses.

Did give a warning on the YouTube page.

Pity the forum keeps changing it to play here on the site.

Aw well, I'll just put it at the top of the page.

EDIT: Hey, sweet! I just got the 29,000 post on this forum.

Could you give some information on the book on Lowenhardt that you mentioned in the initial post to this thread? Author, title, publisher, source if not readily available, etc. I am always interested in getting biographies of aces, and I am unaware of a biography of him.

Frank.

Sure. Here's a link to it:

Amazon.com: Fokker D VII Aces of World War 1 (Part 1) (Aircraft of the Aces 53): Books: Norman Franks,Harry Dempsey

It's just in regard to the aces using the plane in general. Cousin Erich never wrote an autobiography from what I'm aware.

Thanks for the note. I have that book. I was hoping for an actual biography to add to my collection. The number of German aces who actually wrote autobiographies during WW1 is rather small (Boelcke, Immelmann, MvR, Buddecke, Schäfer, Udet, von Tutschek; plus maybe Gontermann (1919)).

Those can be really hard to come by. I was lucky enough to get my hands on the origional "Der Rote Flieger Pilot" by M. von Richthofen. Excellent book.

If you're still viewing this thread, you might be interested to know that they've published a book with personal reports of Oswald Boelcke concerning his patrols/dogfights.

Unfortunately, the "aerial combat" photographs are from the infamous Cockburn-Lange collection - actually studio montages created by Wesley Archer of No 40 Squadron RAF after the war and sold on the the strength of being exposures taken by a serving front-line officer over a period of a year or more. An extremely informative article appeared in a copy of the Cross and Cockade (International) Journal a few years back.
