Question about WWI Aviator Pen and Ink Drawing
I am looking for clues as to the signature and scene of the artist of the attached illustration. It is a pen and had ink drawing of pilot receiving a medal during a ceremony. The inscription reads: "With compliments to Dr. H.W. Truebenback..." All I know are these facts: Harry Truebenback was New York city chiropractor who lived in Danbury, CT. I am told it was based on a real life event where the pilot was enormously tall and the General incredibly short. The signature of the artist is too challenging to read. It is dated 9-24-22 (It looks like a S.G. S...) I am told the signature is from a pilot in the Lafayette Escadrille. However, the last initials and last names of the Escadrille pilots don't exactly match! I figured someone from the forum might recognize the event or even the signature. Any help or clues in identifying this drawing would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael
