Tracking down a picture of MvR seen in a 1917 British newspaper

Greetings everyone, this is my first post here. I am returning to WW1 aviatio hobby of my youth, and I am enjoying the rummage through boxes my 1970s collections of Cross & Cockade magazine etc. (I'm a Brit now living in the US).

At one time I had a British newspaper from 1917 which showed a picture of MvR, with head bandaged, inspecting troops presumably while convalescing away from the front. I remember the caption was quite neutral for wartime Britain (something like "von Richthofen finds time to inspect troops while recovering from his wounds"). I haven't seen this photo anywhere else, and thought it might be a new "discovery" at the time.

Anyone out there aware of such a photo published in any book or journal? If not, I shall double my efforts to locate the newspaper (it's been 20 years since I last saw it!).

Thanks in advance!

Hello

May be the photo you mentionned was taken in August 1917 at the occasion of a Kaiser military in flanders -At that date MVR was still bandaged and was recovery from his head wound
You can see some of this photos in a winsock series datafiles named Richtofen
by AE Ferko

Question Could be...anyone got a scan of the pic?

Thanks for the reply, Bruno, and the reference.

That does sound like the photo in question (I had forgotten that the Kaiser was also there).

If anyone has the picture from the Ferko book, posting a low-res scan would be appreciated, then we'll know for certain - my visual memory of it is quite good.

There's a small chance that my mom threw out that newspaper while I was away at college (thanks mom!) - so I would be glad to know that the picture survived somewhere in the historical record.

Thanks!

When (or if?) I do find the newspaper I'll scan and post the relevant pages for everyone's enjoyment. Unfortunately I don't remember the newspaper's name (I don't think it was the Illustrated London News, it was all B&W). There were some other WW1 aviation "news from the front" pieces in there, and an prescient cartoon about what life will be like when the government controls education and healthcare.
