Voss certainly flew a Pfalz (along with an Albatros DV) at Jasta 10, but it is nearly impossible to confirm that he scored four victories on the type. From his arrival at the unit until his first victory in Fokker FI 103/17 on 3 September, Voss did indeed claim four victims, but the aircraft he flew whilst doing so is not recorded".
Then there's this from Barry Diggens' September Evening, page 66:
"...he (Voss) and his pilots familiarised themselves with their new Pfalz DIII's, with which the Jasta had been re-equipped towards the end of July. Pfalz and Albatros scouts were fairly well matched for speed and performance, if anything the Pfalz was more manoeuvrable, and could dive faster and harder than any Albatros, yet many German pilots never favoured the type, and this included Voss. Although he scored four victories whilst flying a Pfalz he thought it less responsive and soon reverted to using an Albatros DV for patrol work."
Stephen.
That's an interesting observation regarding the No.1 on Voss' DV...What makes you think that?

Mates,
Interesting!!!!
Just reread the passages that you quoted and I must have been brain dead or the old gray matter is ozzing out between my ears - It just staired me in the face. Many thanks Bucky for pointing it out. I really appreciate it.
Anyone know the serial number of the Albatros DV that he flew??? And who it passed to after he acquired his Triplane???
I also hear that it was painted green or pale green. Any other thoughts on the matter.

which one??
Gentlemen:
Ltn.Voss had two Alb.D.III machines, the first one had a central radiator that he took with him when he was transferred from Jasta B to Jasta 5 on 20 May 1917.
Ed Ferko states that Voss was on leave in June 1917, I think this must have been while Voss was with Jasta 5.
MvR was on leave between 15 June to 26June 1917. While MvR was on leave in June, he met with Ltn.Voss at Krefeld.
The second Alb.DIII had an offset radiator, He acquired the second Alb.D.III prior to his leave, in order to have it fully decorated when he met MvR at Krefeld between 15 to 26 June 1917.
He must have left it the second Alb.D.III at Jasta 5 with his transfer to Jasta 29 on 28 June 1917. There are no furher photos that I know of the second Alb.D.III, after the photos taken at Krefeld.
Blue skies,
Dan-San

Mate,
Thanks for your reply. I kinda figured that.
New Question: Any idea as to what the serial number was of the Albatros D.V that was made available for him to fly at Jasta 10.
Thanks in advance.
