RNAS Kilwa

Does anyone know what was at Kilwa c1917? My grandfather 2nd Lt Harry Eyre ASC was there as part of an MT Stores depot attached to the RNAS...one of his contemporaries there was Flt Sub Lt Rudolph Dawson Delamere RNAS, who was from Toronto,
thanks, Matt

RNAS Kilwa

Matt, ".....Some limited flying was done from Kilwa Kiswani early in January 1917 but the increasingly waterlogged state of the airfield forced both the 26 Sqn RFC and 7 Sqn RNAS to store their Voisins and return to the coast, leaving the dismantled machines to be cared for by a small rear party. Operations from Kilwa would not recommence until May 1917 – once the airfield had dried out......."
The full account of RNAS operations in German East Africa appears in Cross & Cockade International, Vol 38, 2007and is recommended reading.
