I found out that the leader of Kampf-Einsitzer-Abteilung G.H.Q and Flieger-Wach Kommando Hpt.Qu. Mèzières-Charleville was Hauptmann Vollrad von Eickstedt.

Have someone information about this Hauptmann.

Vollrad von Eickstedt

Hi Alex,

information about the man is rare.

Look at the old thread
Hptm von Eickstadt

Furthermore I know he had license 340 of FAI, signed by DLV on 16. December 1912 for examination on airfield Johannisthal with Eindecker (Taube?) manufactured by Rumpler. He was Oberleutnant in this time and born on 23. March 1882 in Köslin/Pommern.

You should contact christian@eickstedt.de for more information.

VBR
Hannes

PS: I am still waiting for results of your scanning work ...

Hi Alex

I would say that these "units" are one and the same unit, it only changed name in dec 1916 (maybe because of slightly different duties). It also changed name again in Mar 1918....
Vollrad von Eickstedt (P) joined in from BeoSch Freiburg on 1 Aug 1916 to become the new leader. The former leader seems to much found having "wild times"....

Josef Jacobs, the later ace was "deported" to serve in this unit from 1 Aug 16 until 1 Sep 16 when he was posted back to FFA 11.
A good description of his service there is in OTF 9/4 from 1994 compiled and edited by our forumite Stephen Lawson.

I would say that the unit was of KEK character, i.e. not an official unit but more like a kommando...
