Roland Harris (ground-to-air firing practice)

Researching the details of Roland Harris of 60 Sqn I learned that he died on 7 June 1917 when "the starboard wings of his Nieuport 17 fell off during ground-to-air firing practice". He crashed near the airfield at Le Hamuau and is buried at Avesnes le Comte nearby.

Can anyone shed any light on "ground-to-air firing practice"? (I'd have though that, when flying, it would be the other way round!)

Is there anywhere we can look in RFC records to find a report/inquest into the incident?
