I should have checked my database before clicking on the "Submit Reply" button. You're quite correct, Hervey-Bathurst's claim was later in the day. Mind you, it's not the first time the Communiques "scrambled" the combats reported by a squadron - I experienced the same when trying to get to the bottom of Mannock's claims.

My note taking was a bit sloppy too. My log has 9 EA Scts - two formations; and because Js 6 & Js 3 are in the mix I scribbled in my notebook two formations of 9! Checked my copy 29 Sqn SRB for 28 July 17 - original clearly in poor condition and said patrol at bottom of page and almost impossible to read. What can be determined states 9 EA seen at 8,000ft possibly in two formations - patrol engaged 4 - but cannot read beyond that.
None the less it is certain there were only 5 pilots on patrol which left 1030:
B1678 Lt Campbell
B3467 Lt Collier
B3456 Lt Hawgood
B1609 Lt Cudemore, &
B3454 Sgt H-Bathurst.

Yes it sounds like some scrambling.

Great photos.

I think the actor Peter O'Toole likes to claim he was born in Ireland, but there are suggestions, that although o Irish decent, he was born in Yorkshire - suspect the same re Mannock, where on Aero Cert he has put mothers birthplace.

Darby is not too far south of Sheffeild where my mother hails from.

Cheers Russ
