Army Nurse Marion L. Overand - Issoudun

On June 16, 1919, Army nurse Marion L. Overand was killed in an 'aeroplane accident' at the 3rd AIC in Issoudun. She was buried there and her name appears on the monument near Paudy.

I'm researching how it could be that a nurse died in an airplane accident, where she was from, and any information regarding her service in France.

I also have a book, in French, I received as a gift last year from a friend in Châteauroux, near Issoudun, entitled 'Les Américains à Issoudun', by Bernard Gagnepain. It is very thorough and chock full of photographs from numerous collections.

Thanks.

Correction to DOD

Marion L. Overand died on June 16, 1918 and not 1919. Pardon my fat fingers.

Hello kbevier,

Welcome to the Aerodrome. Very interesting question and your fingers seem to be working fine. This information just adds to our wealth of knowledge.

Gorrell's History of the AEF 1917-1919 Volume 9

I have seen the reference you mentioned. It is where I learned she died in an aircraft accident. I originally learned of her as simply the only female name among 171 dead commemorated on the plaques at Paudy. Thanks.
