Hello,

Also from Dennis Gordon's wonderful The Lafayette Flying Corps, from Schiffer Publishing, 2000:

John William Francis Mary Huffer was born in Paris, France on 15 June 1895. He was the son of William Huffer, who held the monopoly for the importing of Virginia tobacco to France and Italy - and Louise Sylvia (Gignoux) Huffer.

He flew with the French Escadrille N95 from 1 April 1916 to 16 June, when he transferred to Escadrille N62. From 13 July to 14 September 1917 Sergent Huffer flew with Escadrille F36, then returned to SPA62. On 17 May 1918, as a major in the USAS, he took command of the 94th Aero Sqdn. He took over the 93rd Aero on 25 July 1918, and commanded that unit until the Armistice.

He died in Paris in the American Hospital on 23 April 1986, at age 81. He is buried in the Huffer family tomb 20 miles north of Paris.
