Hello James,

You really have an absolutely incredible artifact there. How to insure it? Something like that is priceless.

Treasure it!

Graeme

Thank you for giving me the date of Hazell's last day with 24 Sqn, more info to add to my growing folder.

Gregvan

Thank you for your kind comments, but I think I have to seek professional advice on value and insurance.

James

Do you have a listing of all his 43 victories??? It's in 'Above the Trenches' but failing that I'm sure Graeme & myself can run you one up with the how, what, where, when details.

Soderbaum

Thanks for that correction - had made the asumption they were same crew from the Verlustlist - missed Eck wia pow - staring me in the face in COTGAS. Seals Jensen & Eck as Hazell's victim and likely source of badge.

Cheers Russ

No I don't have a list of Hazells 43 victories, come to think of it I don't know that much about the man himself, only that he was born (1892) and died in Ireland in 1946 aged just 54 years old.

54 seems very young by todays standards, was his death an accident?

James

Over the Trenches - a book dedicated to British & dominion aces in WW1 has a brief account of his service career with a listing of his 43 victories. But only that he died in 1946. Many ex airmen - Brit & German who survived the air war did not reach old bones. VM Yeates (6 vic ace with 46 Sqn) the author of the highly aclaimed 'Winged Victory' for example died in his thirties of TB I think - made worse by the strains of war time flying.

Given a bit of time, I can run up a listing of his victories with details of the engagements drawn from Combat Reports and Squadron record Book entries. Will put it on this thread if you are interested.

Cheers Russ.

Dear Russ

Please don't "knock yourself out" on this but if you have the time I would be most grateful to have a list of his victories and the details of these engagements. Please post on thread, as and when you get them.

Kind Regards
James
