ps
we've had this battle since day one on this site at this time of the year.
Richard is a tattered old fokker who always breaks right in this dogfight and gets nobbled good style.
Just when you think he's dead he makes a comeback on the anniversery of Mick Mannock's demise. :
pps "It's a cruel world." laughed Ginger as his old enemy drifted into the middle of his Aldis.
Craig,
keep the heck out of it when the grown ups are dogfightimg, there's a good boy. :-X
Rich,
Best regards,
Ginger.

Didn't that SE 5a have a bad turn with a bright Red Fokker Dr.II? *Something about rusty razor wire and wood splinters and bobbing up and down in Zillebeker See?

Ginger, if I ever make it to the esteemed cradle of civilization, we are getting pissed proper or know why.
Bless your barnacle covered heart, mate.
I laughed til the tears rolled. 8)

The sky became empty, apart from one SE5a. As it frollicked in the rays of a setting sun the big G on it's top wing shone like a beacon. :'(

I'm a bit confused by the "Chivalry" reference above. I had the impression the rusty baron was as professional in his work as, er, Mannock or Fonk. Can someone enlighten me?
Now Guynemer was chivalrous, and famously spared the life of Udet when his guns had jammed. However, Udet subsequently went on to shoot down 52 more Alied aircraft and become Germany's second highest-scoring ace. So I'm not saying chivalry is unambiguously a Good Thing.
Was Richthofen ever chivalrous in this sense?

Apologies for the bad language in the above (amended in the dawn's early light) but it was not my fault. :-[
The Mess is full of 'dead soldiers', which I presume I must have gargled last night. In the future I'll try and be more vigilant when nissed as a pewt, at the moment three cheers for the mind altering powers of Newcastle Brown Ale.
Hip! Hip!
