Harold Hartney's sons

Most Forumites are familiar with Harold E. Hartney who flew FE-2s in the RFC and later commanded the US 1st Pursuit Group. His son, HEH Jr, was KIA with the 56th FG in May 1944.

I've just learned that Major James C. Hartney, an F-105 Wild Weasel, was shot down and disappeared into N Vietnamese captivity in January 1968. It's been stated that he was HEH's son. Anybody know?

Thank you.

Barrett -

A few years ago Ben Allen, Captain (USAF, ret.), former F-105 Wild Weasel driver and retired Amer/ Airlines captain asked me to paint a 27th Aero SPAD for him. He told me he flew with Hartney's son (might be his grandson....) so had a peripheral interest in the 27th.

Ben is still alive and kicking so if you need confirmation and possible more info, I can sure track it down for you.

Feel free to email me directly - njaviators@aol.com

Mike, thank you. I'll pass the word to the AF folks.
The Hartney F105 pilot was born in 1925 so obviously was HEH's son.

JC Hartney

I am the great-grandaugter of HE Hartney -- Harold and his wife Irene had 4 children -- HE Jr. (Sonny), JC Hartney and two daughters - June Hartney Yeager and Doris Hartney Gensel. JC Hartney has two surviving children as does June and Doris has 3 children.
