Skeffington, HNS - Australian Connection

Hi all,

I noticed there was a thread here in 2006 about these three RFC lads. I am researching all those in the AFC/RFC/RAS/RAF who had an Australian connection.

Skeffington, HNS is listed on the AWM Commemorative Roll however I have not been able to find out anything about him or a photo of him.

I have details on the crash and burial however nothing further.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Geoff

Geoff

Lt Herbert Neville Southwell Skeffington and Lt Allan Clyde Malloch, No 57 Sqn RFC, were shot down in DH4 A7448 on 28 July 1917 by Oblt Eduard von Dostler of Jasta 6 as his 20th victory. Skeffington was killed and Malloch taken prisoner.

The only other note I have is that Skeffington had been appointed a 2nd Lt on probation on 22 June 1917.

Thanks Graeme,

We have this wonderful project site available in Australia and I forgot to use it. Usually if they are listed as UK on the CWGC database they are not here.

As I have not the required 10 posts, I am unable to post the link so please look up "The AIF Project" on Google for the link and key in Skeffington.

Seems he was born in England and must have been working in Australia as a photographer when war broke out and enlisted initially in the AIF (engineers)

Cheers

Geoff
