Not an A.E.G.C type.

hi PFFF:
That is nor an A.E.G.C.IV aircraft. It is a Rumpler C.type, most likely a C.VII with a Hausmann gun ring.
Blue skies PFFF,

Ru C.VII

Hi PFFF:
The Rumpler C.VII was a very high flying photo reconnaissance airplane. It was powered with the Maybach MbIVa 245 Ps engine. It normally flew well above 23000 feet, was fast with 175km/hr at sea level, faster than the Alb.D.Va and PfalzD.IIIa. It was probably the best high altitude photo reconnaissance aircraft in WW1. It was the U2 of WW1.
Blue skies PFFF,
Dan-San

Bonjour à tous

I do not think the caption
of this photo is accurate, since it was published in Guerre aerienne illustree # 51 .... on 1st November 1917!
(patriotic..)caption above the photo(translation)

"This enemy plane was shot down by our anti-aircraft guns, which they also have their aces. It was looking for a very large hospital, a place where he could operate the most havoc, when suddenly hit by a shell it crashed near souilly.Nul will never know if this aircraft was counted as lost by the opponent!"

Cordialement
Bruno

Thank you for the correct identification of the a/c Dan-San - and thanx for bringing this to my attention PF.

Bruno,
The English caption below the photograph PF posted is in the same hand-written style that can be found on a few other photos. Would you concur that this would be indicative of them being sold in Paris as a package to the AEF servicemen when on leave in the capital, and the date on this particular photo given to suit the need of "bragging-rights" back home? Call it a selling-point for the vendor if you like -- just a thought.

Another view...cross your eyes...it works...but not because it was originally taken as a true stereograph but because the Keystone firm manipulated bits between the paired images to "fake" the effect.

-
Cheers
