RFC Claims 16 and 17 June 1916
Does anyone have any information on RFC victory claims on 16 and 17 June 1916? From RFC Communiques 1915-1916 I have the following:
16 June 1916 : one indecisive combat
17 June 1916: 30 combats in the air claims by:
Lt Chadwick & 2Lt Wedgewood F.E. 2b/11 Sqn
Lt G.H. Gray DH 2/24 Sqn
Cpt Wilkinson DH 2/24 Sqn
B.E. 2c of theIInd Wing
I am doing reserch on Ltn Wilhelm Wendt who died of wounds recieved in air combat while flying a Fokker E on 16? June 1916, near Hantay France, which is SW of Lille. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

The claims by Lt R Chadwick + 2nd Lt Wedgwood were for two-seaters, one north of the Bois de Biez and the other north-east of Achiet-le-Petit (north-west of Bapaume).
The Fokker claimed by Capt A M Wilkinson, No 24 Squadron RFC, was at 18:25 near Miraumont; this, too, is down south near Bapaume.
Lt D H Gray's combat, apparently with a single-seater, commenced above Pozières, south of Miraumont.
Not in the Communique is the claim by three crews from No 25 Squadron RFC - Lt L L Richardson + Lt M V Lewes, Lt H B Davey + 2nd Lt J B Hinchcliffe and 2nd Lt J R B Savage + 2/AM Robinson - for a Fokker "out of control" at 11:30 over Don. Don is a little over 4 Km north-east of Hantay.

Thanks everyone I am doing some research on Wendt's death and it looks like the 25 Squadron claim may be the most possible cause.

Just a thought but another possibility is 9 Jun 16 when the 16 Sqn crew of Lt Pentland & Capt WH Walker were attacked by a Fok E over Harbourdin at 1750 - the EA was hit on a turn and fell away in a fast dive and was seen to crash.
All the German lists give date of death 16 Jun 16 but if he did indeed die of wounds then it is concievable he was wia on 9 Jun 17 - loc is in the right area.
Cheers Russ

Hi Russ
The claim by Pentland and Walker on 9 June is certainly a possibility although Haubourdin is about eight miles north-east of Hantay, whereas Don is only about three miles from Hantay, so from the point of view of proximity I'd still go for the 25 Sqn claim.
There was an unconfirmed claim by the Belgian crew of C Kervyn + R d'Hendecourt on 17 June, but this is described as a Fokker DII.
The only other Fokker E claimed on 17 June was by Sous Lt J M D Navarre and Sous Lt G Pelletier d'Oisy, but this was over Samogneux, way down south near Verdun.

Graeme & Immo
On the imput of Immo, then I suggest the 'indecisive' on 16 Jun 16 needs to be tracked down. Beyond me I'm afraid.
Cheers Russ

Hi Russ
Been thumbing through what I've got and haven't turned up anything either, I'm afraid.
