Trying to find information

I am new to the forum hope I am doing this correct. I recently purchesed a leather helmet, lather leg guard and pistol. I am now dieing to know the story that goes along with them. I can't believe there isn't family that want these things. The helmet has this written Lieut. L.H. Conner Pursuit Group A Dashing 48 Aero Sqd. Mineola, LI NY. Then there are two other "notes" on it like people signed it one reads Love Payne Hazelhurst Mitchell. The other is hard to read looks like Hi Conner Pete Mike Blondie. I feel like this thing is begging me to get the story. If anyone can help, or give me some ideas please let me know.

Hi Goldenheal33,

Welcome to the Aerodrome.
I thought that I would freshen up this Thread so that Mike O'Neal or one of our many Experts in this area would see this and hopefully provide information.

Cheers, FOKKERJ

thank you

I have found out a few more things. One being, if history teachers want students to learn about lets say WWI..ect. They should assign them a person that they have to research. I have learned so much since I have been researching this stuff.

I was able to get the actual declaration given to the owner from the president.
It states that Lawrence Hodge Conner is appointed Second Lieutenant in the Aviation Section of the Signal. It is dated May 17, 1918. It is signed by The assistant Secertary of War, which looks like Brown. Also The Adjunct Generals Office, which looks like P.H. McCain. I did find conformation that puts McCain in this position at that time.

I also think the makings Love, Payne Hazelhurst, Mitchell are all Airfields or bases. So maybe those are the places he had been.

I am still interested if anyone can shed some light on any of this.
Thank you

Goldenheal33: welcome to the aerodrome...good to have you here. This is the best place around to get your questions answered. Be patient, and someone will be along to help you no doubt. There are many historians and experts in residence.

Hello Deanna,

Welcome to the Aerodrome.

You've done your homework. I agree that the "Love, Payne Hazelhurst, Mitchell are all Airfields" remark.

This could have been posted in the "Memorabilia" Section, but since you may be seeking information about "The helmet has this written Lieut. L.H. Conner Pursuit Group A Dashing 48 Aero Sqd. Mineola, LI NY.", then this is the right place to search out information on People.

Although some people might find this Thread easier on the Memorabilia forum.
Tough call!

Just keep this alive and see what happens.
If you don't get the results you are hoping for, then it might be time to move this.
Sometimes I will contact someone I know is knowledgeable about a certain subject and direct them to the Thread that may need their responce.

Keep trying and don't give up.

Best Wishes, Jay

P.S. If and when you do decide to move this, just contact a Moderator and have them move this whole Thread, replies and all.
