Help.

Hi everybody, I'm strictly a navy man myself but in desperate need of help from you knowledgable folk.
It's basically a near mission impossible but here goes.
My late father-in-law a Thomas Hough born 1895, when working in Southport at Vulcan Motors at the outbreak of the first world war joined the Royal flying corps as a mechanic and as far as I know served until the completion.
All I have of his service is a leather flying coat and the attached photograph.
My wife is desperate to try and find out more about his service but this is all I have to go on apart from the usual Birth, marriage and death certificates.
Can anyone help me please?
