pour le merite medal

I have found a Pour Le Merite Medal in my grandmothers attic. It is in a black case and is in great condition. My question is how can it tell who won it. Also interested what its worth. I has what looks like 898 and intitials around the pin hole where the ribbon fits......

Not sure, but doesn't a new member's post-count need to reach a certain limit (10 or something?) before being allowed to post attachments/photos?
