My Gallery
It is not MvR

Hi PFFF:
This post card cannot be from MvR, the post card is dated 21 May 1918, MvR was killed in action on 21 April 1918. Also it is not his image in the photo.
Blue skies PFFF,
Dan-San

Austro-Hungarian Pilot

Hello PFFF,

I think it´s an Austro-Hungarian Pilot. The stamp is from Austro-Hungarian and the Adress from Mrs Singer is also in Austria (Niederösterreich-Lower Austria).

I sent the following message to the Seller:

"Hello,

This is NOT the Red Baron aka MvR!
It is a great foto of an unknown flieger.
Please let me know if you offer this again at a much more reasonable offer, such as $2.00 or $5.00.

Please see here:

Postcard of MVR?

Best Wishes, fokkerjs"

We will see if he responds or if someone is willing to pay $49.50 for a Foto Post Card of someone that probably never even saw MvR!

Cheers, FOKKERJ

P.S. Here it is:

"Vintage WW I photo postcard depicting pilot in cockpit. The elderly man from whom I purchased this told me it was the Red Baron. You be the judge because I just don't know. This came with the other photo I have listed which does show the Red Baron's brother. There is writing on the back but I cannot read German. There is a lot of wear to the card but the image is very clear."

Starting bid: US $49.50

Mate,
Good show! The picture is not even close to MvR even in his younger days and I am glad that you beat me to the punch - Maybe he talked to MvR from beyond the grave?????

Boelcke & Lothar ????????

Look at the sellers other auction:
Very rare vintage photo of WW I German flying aces - eBay (item 370290951143 end time Nov-19-09 14:11:05 PST)

"The one to the far left is Oswald Boelcke, middle one is Lothar von Ricthofen"

How amusing, they are obviously Austrians.

Anyone want to buy a postcard showing Kaiser Wilhelm, the Dalai Lama and Bing Crosby?
Oops, sorry, it's actually a picture of the Marx Brothers!

Personally I have no use for eBay anymore.

Often the postage and handling fees are inflated, almost or more than the selling price.

Once I wrote an e-mail to one seller who described an item as a highly detailed accurate model of a Bristol Bulldog. I had bought one at my local hobby shop for next to nothing to practise new techiques and rigging. It was a 'crude' kit at best. (Smer Bristol Bulldog)

I told him his description should be revised - he told me to mind my own business. I pity the poor sap who eventually bought the kit.

My daughter used to buy a lot from eBay, but after getting stiffed a few times, she very rarely takes the chance.

eBay was good a few years ago, but now seperating the good from questionable is a challenge to say the least.
