Hi all

On 11 Dec 1917 this British Airship was brought down over the North sea by aeroplanes from See I(Sea Flying Station Flandern I stationed at Seebrügge).

Firstly the German announced that the victorious crew was Oblt dR MA Friedrich Christiansen and Fl.Mt Bernhard Wladicka.

However it is completely clear from German documents that the victory was disputed from at least one other German crew and that Christiansen-Wladicka did NOT receive confirmation for their claim..

What happened..?...Was it later confirmed to another crew OR did the hot discussion ended in a draw, like that it become a unit victory..?

If anyone can identify some of the other crews involved, I can perhaps give some more thoughts..

For any help, thanks in advance

Gunnar,

As you probably know also there were three planes from the C Staffel involved in the bringing down of the airship.
However, no crew names, sorry.
According to the book 'Die Kapitäne Christiansen' there existed the following official message :

Berlin December 12th. One of our naval planes under the command of Lt. Christiansen has during a recon flight over the Channel, destroyed the British airship C27. The airship went down in flames and crashed into the sea.
Chief of the Naval Staff

It seems also to have been published in the newspapers of that day.
According to the book Fiede and Wladicka did attack the airship from above. However it is not mentioned that they were the ones who shot it down... It just suggests this a little.

Sorry not much help

Best from Johan
