Hi

Could the un-readable Hptm xxx, be something like Hptm Minarski who at this time was commander of FAA 250 (probably stationed at Heule)..??

Gunnar,
you are the best.

The man is Hauptmann Minarski, a guest, too

Hi Eddy

I actually dont have much on information on Lt dL Wilhelm Merkle. I have him in FAA 258 in the summer of 1917 and also in early spring of 1918...

The fact he was dL indicates he was older then a normal soldier..

However, another famous pilot who apparently served within the unit is Vfw Willy Wenck who probably left on 23 Jul 17.
Unfortunate I dont have O´Connors volume 2 which among others deals with those who received the GMVK..!

Anyone who can check this source..?

Hello Gunnar,
Neal O`Connor write:

Willy Wenck
Served in FFA 41 and successor unit FA(A) 258 until January 23,1917. Credited with 170 frontline missions there. Reported to Schusta 4 on July 13. With it and successor unit Schlasta 4 said to have flown another 150 protection and attack missions. On many occasions flew against enemy infantery and positions at heights of only 30 to 60 feet. Cited as an "exemplary flier whose nerve and daring was an example to his command". Awarded the Golden Military Merit Cross an April 11, 1918. Sometimes thereafter promoted Leutnant for bravery in the face of the enemy.
