Well, it looks like I'm finally going to finish my book on MvR, so I was wondering if anyone had any recomendations for a book on "Mick" Mannock?

The only one I am aware of is "The Ace With One Eye" (?) by Fredrick Oughton (?) Doing this from memory, it is not in my collection. R.

There's also The Personal Diary of Mick Mannock (1966) also by Frederick Oughton and a short pamphlet-like book titled Mannock, Patrol Leader Supreme (1977) by Douglass Whetton. Also, it might be worthwhile to check out the video Where They Flew and Where They Fell which contains more detailed information on his fatal crash and burial location.

One more book: Mick: the Story of Major Edward Mannock (1981) by James M. Dudgeon.

For my money Smith's recent work is the best all-round discussion of his life (although it contains a few technical errors, it also discusses previous works). If you are interested in Mannock as seen by his contemporaries try "Fighter Pilot" by McScotch which gives us information about his career with 40 Sqn. Also "Tiger Squadron" by Ira Jones which gives details about his time with 74 Squadron. Both are quoted extensively in other works. If you are looking for books try www.abe.com, I got Smith's book for half-price! As to the Baron's comment about why? well Baron if you don't know by now you are too old to learn, and on totally the wrong web-site!

The Baron spirals down to splash in a mud filled shell crater. This puts out the flame in his tail feathers. :P
