Lothar von Richthofen's children's
I know this question has been asked before, but it doesn't seem that anyone has yet known the answer. The thread I ran into was several years old, so I was hoping someone might know now. I'm looking for any information I can on his two children for a book I'm working on and nothing I run into says anymore than that he had a son and daughter. The son's initials seem to be W.M., but that is all.
Thanks in advance,
Lost Airman

Hello Lost Airman,
The names of the children were: Carmen Viola (1920) and Wolf Manfred (1922).
Regards,
Jos

That branch of the family is still around today, actually. The von Richthofen family photostream on Flickr is run by Lothar's great-great-(great?)-granddaughter, one Saya von Richthofen (who is apparently Wolf Manfred's great-granddaughter). I stumbled across it on Google Image search once. It has a lot of interesting family photos, from photos of Manfred and Lothar from the war, to pictures of a young Wolf Manfred and his children, all the way through the present. Interesting to dig around on.

It seems that you mix up some generations: Lothar's daughter: born 1920,
Lothar's grandchild: 1950,
Lothar's great-grand-child: 1980,
Lothar's great-great-grand-child: 2010
Lothar's great-great-great-grand-child: born in 2040.
Firstly: His son's children are (today) astonishing young: in their twenties (!)
Secontly: The von Richthofen-family is bigger than you imagine ( list of important family members in the 19th and 20th century). Only Bolko's son, Manfred, and Lothar's grandchildren (plus the children of sister Ilse) are direct relatives of Manfred and Lothar ...
Thirtly: the Flickr von Richthofen should tell us her place in the family tree.

Well, you caught me there. That's why I had that extra "great" in parentheses, because I'm not entirely sure. =P But if you get on her personal flickr account she identifies herself as "the great great granddaughter of Lothar von Richthofen."
As far as I can tell, I think it went something like this:
Lothar
Wolf Manfred - b. 1922? (If I remember correctly - wasn't he born right before Lothar died?)
Albrecht (who apparently had a brother Ansel) - b. 1940s?
(Saya's father?)
Saya von Richthofen
... who also has her own Flickr account under "The Red Richthofen," but it's mostly personal photos (if you really want to look at it, you can find it under the Richthofen family photostream ... I would feel too much like a stalker just posting it here =P). I think she has a blog as well. Judging from the comments on the Richthofen family photostream & her replies to them, it seems like she's very proud of her heritage and willing to share with people who ask. I'm sure that if anyone had questions about the family, she'd be happy to answer them.
I just thought it was interesting when I stumbled across it. I guess it just fascinates me to know that their families are still around today. It floored me so much to realize that Lothar's however-many-great-grandchildren are still around today that I had to tell my mom (who has put up with my historical obsession since I was 8 years old).
Then again, it also makes me think about all the families whose lines ended because their only child was killed in the war. Very sad ... but I guess I'm just waxing philosophical now. Such is life.

Hey Drache
You are just getting sentimental. It comes with age. I can see that you have your 10th anniversary on the Aerodrome -- congrats!
You joined 4 years before me.
Many years ahead for us both, I hope!
