Hi PFFF
I have extracted the piece below from the attachment.
Lt. O'Daniel was scheduled to go to an active combat air unit.
1st Lieutenant O'Daniel was attached to the 2nd Aviation Instruction Center. He was a camera man and observer on a reconnaissance flight. He died when his plane went down over France before the battle of Chateau Thiery. James Allison O'Daniel was the first Delawarean to be killed in action in World War I.
It looks like Ltn. O'Daniel may have been scheduled to a front line unit but did he ever get there? There is no squadron listed against his name except the 2nd Aviation Instruction Center. The STBF does not list him as a loss and the Jasta War Chronology lists no claims or losses for this day.
Is it possible that he died during a training flight before he left the 2nd Aviation Instruction Center?
Happy Hunting
