Thanx for the info.

I subscribed to Over The Front for a while but found the articles to be discussions between members in the Know.

That's funny, coming from the History Channel. Most of what they show and tell is BS.
So I'm not too surprised at that.

This is after all, the same channel that presented a program that said the Airco DH4 was a FRENCH design.

Geoffrey DeHavilland must have rolled over in his grave at that one!

VBR,

Al Lowe

The USAF Museum used to have a link to download a PDF file with information on the life of Eugene Bullard, but it seems to be off-line. If you like, I'd be happy to e-mail you the PDF file (I downloaded it last year). Just tell me, and I'll send it to you.

A bit off topic, but if you're interested in black fighter pilots, one pilot that's often overlooked is the top black ace of WW2, Roger Sauvage. Sauvage was a black Frenchman who fought with the Soviet air force on the Eastern Front, being credited with 16 victories.

Yes, I would be interested. You can email it to [email protected].

Bac,

I was happy to see you said Eastern Front because according to Dan San there were no Negro aces in the U.S. Military.

History is one of my favorite subjects.

And it really bothers me the way historians/experts/professors/ and authors are able/accepted for taking historic data and distorting it to make their point.

WWI was started because the British paid for the assination of the Arch Duke. (Only an example) but I bet you I could find/manufacture the data to prove it.

Roger Sauvage was half black (in today us he will be considered afro american) he is credited with two kill during the canpagn of france shooting down a He111 and a D17 he was flying a potez 630 (multi seat twin engin fighter look a lot like a me 110)
he will join the normandie niemen in 44 and score 14 victory (and a non confirmed) all those victory were over FW190 but one over a M109
in total he go 3 individual and 13 shared (all with an other pilot)

Normandie Niemen was a free french fighter squadron flying on the eastern front and using russian (Yak 1 then 9 then 3) the plane were under VVS marking and the ground crew was half russian but the pilot were all french. it was under russian command (same as the free french squadron in UK were flying spitfire under british command) The normandie was created in 42 in the midle east (palestine) with free french pilot (before Torch) he was send to russia where it scored 273 victory becoming the most sucessfull french unit of the war (in the same time the british based Squdron 341 scored 32 and 340 36)

TG56,

There is a second bio of Eugene J. Bullard: *Eugene Bullard, Black Expatriot In Jazz-Age Paris by Craig Lloyd. *It only devotes one chapter to his WWI service though. If you check the Forum archives you should find some earlier threads on him.

Regards,
Wayne
