Hi everybody,
I bought long time ago a french medal group who looked very attractive. There is a Legion d'honneur, medaille militaire and a croix de guerre with 7 palmes. Together with that there was a cigogne insigna. Here is some pictures:
http://www.efrance.fr/cbphilo/cigogne2.jpg...ilo/cigogne.jpg

From which squad is this cigogne? Would it be possible to identify the owner of these medals regarding the number of palmes awarded?

Now let's talk about a german medal group.

What means the 9 and the flying insigna? I am not a specialist with air symbol.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you

The cigogne look a lot like the one of spa 167 also called cigogne de romanet

http://gaubs.free.fr/ESCADRILLES/SPA167/Page/page.htm

you can now find it on teh Mirage 2000 of the lafayette

so I will guess the pilot was of spa 167
this unit was created in august 18 and scored 10 confirmed kill 8 of them by romanet the other ace of the unit is joseph Guiguet
both of them had both the legion d'honneur and the medaille militaire but Guiguet only have 4 palms and a bronze star to his croix de guerre and Romanet finished the war with 10 palmes and 3 vermeille star so that bring us to the other pilot that have served within the unit

I have copyy the picture of romanet from the ace section of the aerodrome and you see the medal

and other experienced pilot was part of the unit the S-Lt Dumas (francois from N57) quite a few other pilot have join the unit during the war and are potential name for your medal

never the less 7 palmes is quite good so I would have around Sous Lieutenant Francois Dumas
I also know that Esperon du Tremblay and other got a Medaillle Militair (there is picture of him with that medal)
any way here is the list of the other spa 167 war time pilot
Sergent Boscher
cpl Colomies
Sgt De Lombaron
Cpl Ferraz
Sgt Gerard
Sgt Girard
Cpl Henon
S-Lt le chevalier (unlikely the pilot is fresh from training )
Cpl Marcon (Unlikely also fresh from training)
Sgt Nugues
Sgt Soudin
Cpl Theze
Sgt Trouillet
S_Lt Villard

I tend to believe that the legion d'honneur indicate an officer duringt the war but the pilot may have received it latter

thank you for the information. I don't doubte the insigna is true. It has 2 stamp on the reverse and it is pure silver. The seller told me it was the Romanet's medal but I have been careful.

Thank tou
