On May 10th 1918, Jasta 11 Triplanes attacked a flight of 80 Sqdn Camels.

Ltn Orlando Bridgeman claimed two Triplanes and two others were claimed by his flight.

Anyone know which German pilots were shot down? As far as I can tell Jasta 11 didnt have any losses. Maybe the pilots survived, or maybe they weren't very well known pilots, still i was wondering about their identity.

Following the ' The Jasta War Chronology ' Sqn 80 RAF lost Lt Rowdon and 2Lt Watley (both KIA) and a third one. All aerial victories were claimed by Jasta 6.

German losses were Uffz. Zopf (Jasta 80) and Lt Büssing (Kest 4 B).

According to the informations I have there were only two German losses on 10.05.1918: Uffz. Zopf (Jasta 80, killed in a crash) and Lt. Büssing (K4b, killed in action). On this day Jasta 11 suffered no losses.

In contrary Jasta 11 shot down 3 Sop. Camels of 80 Sqn RAF during this day.

So most probably the four claimed Triplanes are "OOC-claims". OOC (out of control) was often accepted as a victory even if the enemy aircraft was not or slightly damaged. Additionally on this day there were no injured pilots reported in Jasta 11.

Jasta 6 i think also scored against 80 Sqdn so their losses maybe bigger than that. Kirchstein, Hemer, even von Winterfeld of Jasta 4 also.


I have a theory in witch Ltn Pilditch of 73 Sqdn shot down a Fokker Triplane on 7 April 1918 and the pilot was Ltn Gussmann who was wounded...is this true?

Wenzel, Hemer and Kirschstein of Jasta 6 all scored (one Camel each) on this day against 80 SQN RAF.

This day seemed to be a pretty bad day for this Squadron. About one third of the whole party!
