1911 Benselin - Belgian aviator ?
Hi!
Here a post card I found recently about the airfield of Hasselt-Kiewit with an aviator named BENSELIN !
Postcancelled 1911, August...
Now is it so no Benselin never was licenced by the Belgian Aéro-Club de Belgique! Could it be he was licensed in France?
Problem is I don't have his first name!
Into the Yearbooks of the Aé.B.C. period 1911-1912 the only member named Maurice Benselin was an industrial from Grand-Rechain (near Verviers)
Logicly spoken, it might have been this aviator!
The Benselin family seems to have been living around Verviers...
(Grand-Rechain & from Petit Rechain (another familymember was member post WWI!Also industrial -....)
Than 1914 de Petrowski with as observer G. Benselin realised to get the first Belgian aerial war victory getting down a Taube and killing the pilot...
The Benselin on photo, who was he??? So good as sure a Belgian aviator, but
maybe still not licensed and for one or another reason never got his license!
I noticed Maurice Benselin didn't renew his membership for 1913...
So the problem is: what happend to the Benselin on this photo and who was he? Killed in a crash or died meanwhile? Abandoned flying?
And was it Maurice, or that G. Benselin from WWI ?
Fact is, after some first enquiries I made, this aviator seems not to be known in Belgium! It's also so it is the first time I ever got this post card from Hasselt-Kiewit under my eyes! Never seen it before during all the years I am collecting!
