Alberto Santos-Dumont

Looking for more details on Santo-Dumonts Number 6 Airship. Especially engine detail and rigging. I have a few photographs taken from existing books on Santos-Dumont but, as always, need clearer documentation.

Santos-Dumont n°6

Hi Gil!
Can help you on some details on photo, but need you e-mail address!
Contact me on: joel.lauwers@pandora.be (my son = Joël!)
Many photo's on S-D to find on Rod Filan's (Rod : www.earlyaviator.com) website but not these as the one In have here I guess ?
To get large photos, or enlarged photos, I need to mail them to your email address!
Notice the S-D n° 6 was the modified n° 5 (Same gondola, same motor , only
he added a coolwaterradiator to the motor on n° 6 for more, also the gasbag was made from another (lighter and stronger) silk fabric!

A Public Thank You to Jempie

Jempie,

Thought I'd publicly thank you for all the help you've provided for the Santos-Dumont project. Your name will be on the credits. Your in depth knowlege of early LTA has helped set up the entire sequence for 19 October 1901. Again much thanks for all your in-depth help in this project.

Best regards, Gil

Obviously OT but worth sharing. Sergei Sikorksy's short history of aviation speech includes some insight about S-D. He was quite the dandy, cutting a w-i-d-e swath through les filles du Paris, and popularized the wrist watch (which he had made by Cartier's!)

Just in case anyone is interested, I happened to stop at the Museum of Aviation and Space at Le Bourget (Paris) last month. They have a fulll special exhibit on S-D set up. Doc
