1912 Blackburn gets a shine

The Shuttleworth Blackburn Monoplane is one of my favourite planes in the Collection. We decided that the cowling was looking a little dull so we set to and gave it some tlc.

During:

After:

I can't wait to see this out in the sun when the show season starts.

Thanks Eric, it's one of the most rewarding jobs I've been involved in at the Collection.

i'll bet that you have been asked this a million times....

....this was the plane "flown" by the Italian Count in "The Magnificient Men in Their Flying Machines"? It looks beautiful!

Sadly no,
The aircraft flown by the Italian in The Mag Men film was a replica based on a Vickers Type 22 built especially for the film.
This aircraft pictured is an original 1912 aircraft built in the UK.
It's the oldest flyable British aeroplane in the World.

It did take a cameo role in the film but was not flown by any of the characters.

Cheers
S S-C.

PS That's me in the picture in the blue fleece.
