ANTOINETTE 50hp V-8 Info wanted
Does anyone have any detailed info on the Antoinette 8-cyl. 50 h.p. engine (the early one, as used by Alberto Santos-Dumont in his 14bis canard biplane)?
Any info, views, photos, sources, or leads appreciated.
Thanks,
cfgray

Hi Carroll;
I have a bound set of L'Aerophile from 1893-1913. Here is one image (that fits on the forum)and I scanned in two images at 300 dpi to email you. The other shot is a large photo of the engine out of the plane. It is marked 55 cheveaux. (CV) If you have any dates of aero salons or important flights, that would really help me narrow down the search-Instead of going through them week by week. I also have a bound set of the more rare, and usually better illustrated, La Revue Aerienne 1908-1909 and some loose ones, which probably has some info but these are very thick volumes. So if you narrow it down, I'd be happy to look.

ANTOINETTE 50 hp (the earlier version)
Hello, Franzkait,
I'm looking mostly for drawings (inside and outside) of the Antoinette V-8 50 h.p. engine, a type used by Alberto Santos-Dumont in his 14bis biplane in October 1906, after he unsuccesfully tried a Antoinette 24 hp. V-8.
Any help very much appreciated. Thanks to you, Joe G., also. received the images you e-mailed.
Thanks,
cfgray

The CB Hayward book, reprinted as Those Magnificent First Flying Machines (American Aeronautical Archives, 2003) has a photo of a 55HP Antoinette. If this is what you are looking for I will scan and post it

Thanks!
Thanks go out to jgp and franzkait,
jpg - thank for the citation, I have a copy and found what you referenced, thanks very much for your help.
franzkait - I believe this is exactly what I'm looking for - drawings of this engine appeared in 1908, so this model may be the one Santos-Dumont used. Unfortunately, the only photos of the S-D 14bis I've been able to locate do not really show the engine very clearly.
I have to ask if you have any more photos like these showing other parts of that engine - would you be willing to post them if you do?
Great help, thanks again,
cfgray

Joe,
Can I enquire where you obtained your copies of L'Aerophile and La Revue Aerienne from (and roughly how much they cost)?
What a great reference resource!
Thanks
Vig. (Tom)
