Russian Aeronautics before 1907

A great source of documents (in Russian language) concerning Russian aviation and aeronautics up to 1907. 600+ documents collected, publication from 1956.

Includes an interesting [albeit retouched] photo-series of the Danilewsky man-powered aerostat Pilstrem. Three of these photos were not known to me.

[Image]http://www.earlyaviator.com/archive/airships01/1898.Danilewsky.dirigible.aerostat_Pilstrem.jpg[/Image]
PILSTREM

Even more exciting are these two extraordinary photographs:

[Mikst] I. A. Matiunina in [at] the Okhtenskoi shipyard in 1891. (р. 489)
and
[Mikst] I. A. Matiunina, prepared to [for the] flight (р. 490)

Disregard these links to the images. They don't work unless you go through the page Yavor posted. #8 and 9 @#$%&!

Thanks for posting this Yavor
Cheers
Rod

Yavor, this is sure a great addition to early Russian aviation. Sure I never knew such a book existed. There are still surprises in early Russian aviation and one never knows what will come up next time.

The pictures of the Danilevski contains a few 'new' ones. Great.

I need some time searching for information about the dirigible of Огнеслав
the Россия.

The special picture is this one

There may be some translation to do from Russian in English , but sure this is the same okhtenskoy shipyard [Охтенской верфи] as where the Russia dirigible was built.

Many thanks Yavor for finding this gem.

Cheers

Kees

I forgot this shot of the same dirigible

This application was called a Микст, half balloon, half other.

Mikst = Mixed (?!)

Maybe Russian isn't such a hard language to learn after all.

Rod, you are probably right. Millions of Russians are speaking and reading this language quite easily. Only foreigners have to do their utmost to come to grips with the grammatical side, like the outrageous declination

You got it right, Kees!
As much as I can remember, the shipyard in question was on the banks of river Okhta (Okhta shipyard - Okhtenskaya (sudo)-verf).
Regards,
Yavor

Thanks to Yavor and all I learned a bit more about Kostovich and was introduced to the work of I.A. Matyunin (correct spelling of his name), and visited the Russian website (new to me) where I found additional details. Much appreciated. Best regards, agblume
