Anzani Twin opposite engine.

Dear friends,
I’m an Italian aviation enthusiast living close to Milan.
Recently I’ve seen an old aircraft engine on display in a used stuff market of wich I took a picture.
On the engine is easily readable the name Anzani, a quite famous Italian engine builder mostly known to have supplied the engine to Mr. Bleriot for the British Channel crossing.
I tried to get information about this engine, but could only find about Anzani’s three and more cylinders.
No information about this two cylinder boxer type.
Can you help me to have some information?
Does it have a commercial value? The owner is not intended to sell it anyway … for any price, he said.
Thanks a lot.
Giovanni

Hi Giovanni,

Alessandro Anzani started in 1907 with his firm La Société des Moteurs Anzani producing one and two-cylinder engines for motorcycles of 300 till 500 cm3.

The first aeroplane engine he built - a 3-cylinder of 25 hp - was ordered in April 1909 by the Caudron brothers.

No two-cylinder Anzani engine for aircraft use was ever made.

But sure, this old Anzani is a real beauty. Interesting is that the number of the brevet (patent) is on the cylinder. I could make out the number 5000.

Cheers

Kees
